Sandra Larae Luft

Sandra LaRae Luft was born on June 13, 1943, the daughter of Charles and Evelyn (Cory) Moore in Portland, Oregon. She was baptized and later confirmed her faith at St. Ann Catholic Church in Vail, Iowa.

Sandra graduated from St. Joseph's Academy in Des Moines with the class of 1962. She then moved to Carroll, where she studied nursing and graduated as a Licensed Practical Nurse.

Sandra married Patrick Luft on October 1, 1966 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Carroll. The couple moved to Exira and were blessed with the birth of six children: Erin, Michael, Patricia, Amy, Jennifer and Cory. Sandra worked at the Exira Care Center and went back to school to obtain her degree in long term care administration from Iowa Lakes Community College.

Sandra was an excellent cook and will be remembered for her baking. She loved to go camping with Patrick. She also enjoyed reading. Above all, she cherished spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren

Sandra passed away on Sunday, February 19, 2023 at the Taylor Hospice House in Des Moines, Iowa, attaining the age of 79 years, 8 months, and 6 days.

Sandra was preceded in death by her parents: Evelyn and Charles Moore; son, Cory Luft; daughter-in-law, Angie Luft; two grandchildren: Elizabeth Wiskus and Brooks Luft; sister, Charlotte Frank; and two brothers: Larry Moore and Frank Moore.

She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 56 years, Patrick Luft of Bondurant; her children: Erin Luft-Wiskus (Michael Wiskus) of Bondurant, Michael (Sara) Luft of Denison, Patricia (Michelle) Luft of North Platte NE, Amy (Michael) Fritz of Des Moines, Iowa, and Jennifer (Charles) Tinnermeier of Panora, Iowa; her grandchildren: Marguerite Wiskus, Abbigale Wiskus, Patrick Luft, Mashayla Hanson, Joseph Luft, Jacob Luft, Owen Luft, Ella Luft, Maverick Luft, Stevie Luft, Jonathan Pauley, Jade Pauley, Sierra Pauley, Jaxson Pauley, Gabriel West-Luft, Hunter West-Luft, Matthew Fritz, Joshua Fritz, Leslie Lindsay, Aaron Tinnermeier, Chase Tinnermeier, Cloey Luft, Paige Luft, Zander Luft, and Maddox Luft; her great-grandchildren: Hayden Hanson, Carson Hanson, Nolan Hanson, Gavin Hanson, Maxtin Fritz, Brodie Fritz, Adaline Lindsay, Elias Lindsay, Layla Lindsay, Sawyer Luft, Atlas Tinnermeier; daughter-in-law, Holly Luft; many other relatives and friends.

Visitation with family greeting friends will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a Rosary at 4:45 p.m. and Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, February 24, 2023 at the Huebner Funeral Home in Denison. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 25, 2023 at St. Ann Catholic Church in Vail with burial to follow at St. Ann Catholic Cemetery in Vail. Memorials may be directed to Taylor House in Des Moines, Iowa in her memory.
