Alfred J. Feilmeier was born October 22, 1928, the son of Wendelin and Clara Feilmeier. He died at St. Anthony’s Medical Center in Carroll, Iowa, Friday, March 4, 2016 at the age of eighty-seven.
Alfred grew up on the family farm near Templeton, Iowa. He began his education in a rural school near his home in Templeton, then in Roselle and completed his high school education in Carroll, Iowa. After completing his education, Alfred helped on the family farm for a few years before entering the United States Army. He served his country January 3,1951 through December 18,1952. After receiving his honorable discharge in 1952 , he returned home and farmed. For a short time he worked for Bierl Construction and again returned to farming near Wall Lake, Iowa for seven years before settling on a farm south of Westside in 1962.
September 8, 1953, Alfred was united in marriage to Irene Becker at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Mt. Carmel. The couple was blessed with the birth of eight children. He was a loving and caring husband, father and grandfather. In his leisure time, he enjoyed wood working and gardening. He socialized with his family and friends over a cup of coffee and a game of cards. Cribbage was one of the board games he enjoyed with his family. He and Irene enjoyed traveling to Branson and several National Parks as well as visiting their children. He and Irene retired in 1993 and moved to Westside. Alfred was a devoted member of St. Ann Catholic Church in Vail. In younger years, he was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Community Club in Westside.
Alfred was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Judy; four brothers, Edwin in infancy, Rudolph, Earl, and Wendell; three sisters: Mary in infancy; Laura, and also her husband, Tony; Marie, and also her husband, Ed. Survivors include his wife, Irene; three sons: Ted and his wife, Jane; Mike and his wife, Mary Lou; Jeff and his wife, Micki; four daughters: Dorothy and her husband, Randy; Rita and her husband, Jerry; Mary Lou and her husband, Marc; Eileen and her husband, Mark; one son-in-law, Gerald; twenty-nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one sister: Rita and her husband, Jim; sisters-in-law, Margie, Jannis, Clara and Joan; two brothers: Leonard and his wife, Marcia; and Bernie; nieces nephews, other relatives and friends.
