Alice Ann Herkowitz was born May 24, 1931, in rural Dow City, Iowa, the daughter of John and Viola Cross. She died Tuesday, February 14, 2017, at Manilla Manor in Manilla, Iowa, at the age of eighty-five.
Alice received her education in the Dow City schools and graduated from Dow City High School in 1949. Following her marriage to Arthur Herkowitz, the couple resided in Omaha, Michigan, and moved to California in 1977. While living in California, she worked as a billing clerk and performed other office duties at Sherman Oaks Burn Center in Sherman Oaks, California. Arthur passed away May 6, 1991, and Alice moved back to Dow City in 2010.
She was a witty person and very artistic especially enjoying art coloring. Alice was basically a home body but in her younger years traveled to Spain and Acapulco. In her leisure time, she enjoyed watching various types of movies, puzzles, attending her children’s sporting events and her cats. She was a well-informed person particularly watching Fox News and CNN.
Alice was preceded in death by her parents and her husband. Survivors include two sons, Nathan and John one daughter, Nancy; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
