Alice Kuhl

Alice Irene Kuhl was born January 15, 1918, the daughter of T. George and Mamie Gawley. She died at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa, on Saturday, June 16, 2012, at the age of ninety-four.
Alice was born on the family farm and baptized at the United Bretheren Church in Botna, Iowa. She grew up there receiving her education in a rural school near her home. She continued her education in the Harlan Community High School graduating with the class of 1934. She taught school in the Polk Township Shelby County rural school for three years. She attended the United Methodist Church in Irwin and served her church for many years as a Sunday School teacher.
On June 12, 1940, Alice was united in marriage to Marcus Kuhl at the home of her parents. The couple settled on the farm and was blessed with the birth of two children. She worked side by side with her husband, picking corn by hand, milking cows and caring for a large garden. Alice was an awesome cook and enjoyed baking food and treats for her family and friends when they stopped in for a visit. After her marriage, she was confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Manning, Iowa, on April 17, 1941. She was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Denison.
In 1967, the couple retired from farming and operated a motel in Storm Lake, Iowa. They remained there for several years before retiring and settling in Denison. In her leisure time, she enjoyed fishing with her husband and traveling to Alaska. She was a sweet, kind, loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend to all and was especially known for her sweet pickles.
Alice was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, George and John; and two sisters, Lucy and Edna. Survivors include her husband, Marcus; one son, Glen and his wife, Cheryl; and one daughter, Donna and her husband, Roger; two grandchildren, Craig and his wife, KLynn and Brent and his wife, Sarah; and four great-grandchildren, Alex, Kara, Sawyer, and Hildie; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
