Alice M. Schmidt

Alice Marie Schmidt was born November 28, 1929, in Denison, Iowa, the daughter of Emil and Blanche Bukacek Anderson. She died at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa, Saturday, January 25, 2014 at the age of eighty-four.
Alice grew up on a farm northwest of Vail, Iowa and received her education in a rural school near her home in Milford Township until 1941 when the family moved to a farm south of Vail. She continued her education at the Vail Community High School, graduating with the class of 1949. She was baptized as an infant and later confirmed in 1948 in the United Presbyterian Church in Vail by Rev. D.C. Davis.
After completing her education, she helped her family on the farm. On February 22, 1953, Alice was united in marriage to Burdell Schmidt at the United Presbyterian Church in Vail by Rev. Theodore Mansen. The couple settled on a farm east of Schleswig and was blessed with the birth of 10 children.
She was a loving and caring wife, mother and grandmother who cared for her family with sincere devotion. The kitchen skills she is best known for, and always took pride in, is her homemade buns, sugar cookies, angel food cakes, and bread. She always had a candy dish out for her family and guests. She enjoyed her gardens, and always had a wonderful flower garden and rose bushes. She raised chickens and gathered eggs throughout her farming life. Of all her activities, the focus of her life was her family, especially her grandchildren. She attended all of her grandchildren’s sporting events and especially enjoyed basketball . In her leisure time, she enjoyed Bingo, watching Lawrence Welk , The Price is Right, Wheel of Fortune, and Mollie B. She enjoyed listening to polkas on KDSN, their auctions, the Polka Party and listening to basketball games that were broadcast.
Alice is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Burdell in 2009, one sister, Cheryl, and one sister-in-law, Violetta. Survivors include her children: Sharon and her husband, John ; Nancy and her husband, Charlie; Barbara ; Darrell ; Judy and her husband, Mike; Diane and her husband, Jeff; Dean and his wife, Tina ; Debra and her husband, Keith; Karen and her husband, Dale; Delbert ; twenty grandchildren, Ryan and his wife, Katie; Ashley, Jacob and Katlyn: Aaron and his wife, Alyssa; Jenica and Janelle ; Linsey and her husband, Matt; Matthew and Nathan ; Dana and Joshua; Nicholas and Tyler; Jonathan and Kelsey ; Cassandra and Cayla; Sarah and Abby ; three great-grandchildren, Claire , Colin , August and one soon-to-be grandson; one brother, Virgil and his wife, Laurel ; two brothers-in-law, Walter and Raynard ; several nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
