Allen K. Thams

Allen Kenneth Thams was born June 27, 1950, in Carroll, Iowa, the only child of Kenneth and Imelda Thams. He passed away Monday, April 15, 2019, at his home in Denison, Iowa, at the age of sixty-eight.
Allen received his education in the Schleswig Community Schools graduating with the class of 1968. After graduation, he attended Iowa Western Community College in Clarinda, Iowa. On May 31, 1975, Allen was united in marriage with Judy Koehler at Central Christian Church in Marshalltown, Iowa.
Working in the insurance industry his entire life, he began his career as a crop hail adjuster for the Rain and Hail Insurance Company. After his marriage in 1975, Allen joined his father at the Thams Agency in Denison where he not only sold insurance, but was also licensed as a stock broker. He was a member of the Kiwanis, Jaycees and the Knights of Columbus.
Farming the land and raising cattle, however, were his passion. He had a particular fondness for a bull named Pedro. He loved his cars, did some drag racing and was also a pilot, flying his final flight August 25, 2018. Allen had a final wish to see the Aspens of Colorado, and that wish came true last fall. He enjoyed the music of The Beach Boys and watching Top Gun, Star Trek, NCIS and the History channel. Allen was a loving husband, father and grandfather, who cared for his family with devotion and enjoyed spending time with them, particularly his grandchildren.
Allen was preceded in death by his grandparents and parents. Survivors include: his wife, Judy; two sons, Todd and his wife, Emily, and Troy and his wife, Brenda; one daughter, Traci and her husband, Jeff; nine grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
