Alvin Merlin Overhue was born April 1, 1946, at Ute, Iowa, the son of Merlin and Wardene Overhue. He passed away Sunday, August 11, 2019, at his home in Denison, Iowa, at the age of seventy-three.
Al was baptized in Christ and later confirmed his faith. He received his education in the Schleswig Community Schools and graduated with the class of 1964. On June 4, 1966, Al began his lengthy career as a lineman for South Crawford Rural Electric Cooperative, now known as WIPCO in Denison. Al retired in 2010 after forty-four years from a job he loved and never turned down an emergency call. Al was united in marriage with Marjorie Baker August 13, 1966, at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. The couple was blessed with the birth of two daughters, Denise and Diane.
Al enjoyed mowing yards and scooping snow. In his leisure time, he loved to fish in the river, in local ponds and at Lake View. He also enjoyed going to the casinos and socializing. Favorite television programs he enjoyed watching included wrestling, Price is Right, Judge Judy, court room shows, polka shows and talk shows. He found great pleasure in making homemade wine and in 1992 won the grand championship for his entry in the Schleswig Wine Club contest. Al adopted cats over the years and one named “Blackie” was his particular favorite.
Preceding him in death was his father, Merlin. Survivors include: his wife, Marge; two daughters, Denise and her husband, Steve and Diane and her husband, Kelly; four grandchildren, Stephanie and her fianc Bryan, Jacob, Jenna and Cole; one great-grandchild Adelina; other relatives and friends.
