Anna May Hulsebus was born May 30, 1922, at rural Dunlap, Iowa, the daughter of William and Adah Rannells. She passed away Sunday, December 3, 2017, at Denison Care Center in Denison, Iowa, at the age of ninety-five.
Anna grew up on a farm just outside of Dunlap, Iowa, in a home filled with faith and music. She was an active 4-H member and sang in musical groups. She received her education in the schools near her home and graduated from Dunlap High School in 1940. Anna was united in marriage to Lester W. Hulsebus in the Dunlap Methodist Church June 30, 1940. They lived their early married years at Deloit, Iowa, and later moved to a farm near Denison, Iowa. After the death of her husband of sixty-two years, Anna moved into Denison.
She devoted her life to being a farm wife and raising her children, providing a home filled with faith, music and literature. She served as a 4-H leader, gave piano lessons and served as a tutor. Anna was active in the Paradise Pals Club, Farm Bureau Women and United Presbyterian Women and served her church in various roles. She played piano at Eventide weekly for many years, as well as at church and social events. If she heard a tune, she could play it.
Anna was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister and brother-in-law, Florence and C.Y.; brother and sister-in-law, William C. and Norene; brother, S.Sgt. Robert; and sister-in-law, Faye. Remaining to cherish her memory are: three children, Connie and husband, Merlin, Janet and husband, Raymond,and Allan; four grandchildren, Joel and wife, Tiffany, Lisa and partner Patty, Cheryl and husband, Shawn, and David and wife, Denise; seven great-grandchildren; one foster great-granddaughter and husband, Patrice and husband, Alan and daughters; one brother-in-law, Francis; other relatives and friends.
