Arlen Robert Meseck was born April 28, 1961 to Theodore Edgar and Elvera (Kroll) Meseck at the Crawford County Hospital in Denison, Iowa. He was baptized on May 7, 1961 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church Soldier Township and confirmed on March 23, 1975 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig.
He left this earthly life peacefully surrounded by a host of doctors and nurses and the Chaplin at the Immanuel Hospital in Omaha due to Covid on January 13, 2021.
Arlen graduated with the Schleswig High School Class of 1979. He worked at various different jobs until in the 1980's when he went to work for Dale and Kay Reese at Schleswig Plumbing and Heating. When they retired, he purchased the business from them, Arlen went to work for the city of Schleswig as the City Maintenance Worker.
At a young age he enjoyed tearing apart motors, tractors, and other pieces of machinery with the help of his older brothers and his dad. When he was in elementary school, he would help dad, Jake or Buffy clean out the old boilers in the schools, never minding what a dirty job it was. Arlen enjoyed going to sales, collecting Schleswig Memorabilia, and checking out antique auctions. He was always ready to get in the pickup and go for a drive, he could spot an old tractor parked away in the woods and get the owner to practically give it to him.
Arlen was very proud to be a part of the Schleswig Fire Dept. He drove the antique fire truck in many parades. He especially enjoyed Fire Prevention Week at the Schleswig Elementary School and Immanuel Lutheran Preschool. Fireman's cookout was also one of his favorites to take the children on fire truck rides through town blasting the sirens the entire time.
Arlen was preceded in death by his older brother, Francis (1967), mother (2018) and dad (2020). Those left to cherish his memory are his brother, Gary; sisters, Linda (Gary) and Nancy (Terry); nieces and nephews, Patricia (Brian), Lisa (Michael), Stacy (Scott), Trevor, Troy, Jerrod (Trish), Brandon (Kerry), and Alexia; great nieces and nephews, Denim (Erica), Jezlynn (Tanner), Hunter (Ciara), Trey, Tanner, Tayten, Maxwell (Peighton), Conner, Emma, Keegan, Reed, Isla, Brently; great-great nephew, Hoyt; great-great niece, Anna; aunt, Lori Bumann; and many other relatives and friends.
