Arlene Anna Emma Baak was born on July 10, 1927, the daughter of Christ and Anna Determan Luecker. She passed away Monday, October 4, 2010, at the Omaha Nursing Home in Omaha, Nebraska, at the age of eighty-three.
Arlene was born in Granite City, Illinois. She was baptized in Christ on July 24, 1927, and confirmed on April 6, 1941, at Concordia Lutheran Church in Granite City. She received her education in Granite City and graduated from Granite City Community High School in 1945. She then attended Concordia Teachers College in River Forest, Illinois, and graduated in 1949. She taught in Lutheran schools in the Edina, Minnesota, area; at Ricketts Independent School in Ricketts, Iowa; and also at Schleswig Community School in Schleswig, Iowa, until her retirement in 1987.
On August 12, 1950, Arlene was united in marriage to Kenneth Baak in Granite City, Illinois. The couple was blessed with the birth of three daughters.
She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Her love for the Lord was very evident in her life. She was a faithful member of St. Luke Lutheran Church in Ricketts where she was active in the St. Luke Ladies Aid. She was involved in various activities in the Ricketts community including the RicEttes, the Jolly Club, the Community Center Board and Meals-on-Wheels. She was a member of the Schleswig Education Association, Schleswig Band Boosters and Schleswig Mothers Club. She also served as AAL Secretary/Treasurer.
Arlene was preceded in death by her parents. Survivors include her husband, Kenneth of Omaha, Nebraska; three daughters: Rebecca Cook and her husband, John of Papillion, Nebraska; Marcia Dail and her husband, Charles of Omaha, Nebraska; and Cindi Augustus and her husband, Michael of LaVista, Nebraska; six grandchildren: Cortney Dail; Travis Dail and his wife, Stephanie; Kevin Sparks; John Joseph, Krista and Brittany Cook; one sister, Shirley Williams; one brother, Sylvester Luecker and his wife, Lucille, all of St. Louis, Missouri; and one sister-in-law, Leona Hollrah of Charter Oak, Iowa; other relatives and friends.
