Arlene M. Jahn

Arlene Maggie Malinda Jahn was born August 1, 1926, the daughter of George and Ella Riessen. She died Saturday, October 29, 2016 at the Denison Care Center, in Denison, Iowa at the age of ninety.
Arlene was born and raised on a farm in Ottercreek Township near Schleswig. She received her education in a rural school near her home and graduated from 8th grade in 1941. After completing her education, she remained home and helped her parents on the farm. She was baptized in Christ as an infant and later confirmed in the Christian faith in 1941, at the Friedens Church by Rev. H.F. Rinne who married her in Holy Matrimony to Arlo P. Jahn on February 25, 1951. To this union three children were born.
March 1, 1951, Arlo was inducted into the U.S. Army at Camp Carson in Colorado Springs. Arlene joined him there. While living in Colorado Springs, Arlene was employed at a local laundry. After Arlo received his honorable discharge, the couple moved back to Iowa settled on a farm near Manning where they farmed until 1964 when they moved into their new home. Arlo began his employment at Farmland Foods and Arlene began her career in babysitting in her home. Her career lasted 36 years, caring for more than 226 children, some full time and others part time, but loving each as her own.
She enjoyed her son, Kevin’s, school activities, Bible School, Confirmation, guitar lessons, little league Cardinal Baseball games and attending his show and shine car shows, cars that he restored and entered into competition. Her leisure time was spent at her son’s acreage working in a large garden, canning the produce. She also enjoyed socializing with friends, neighbors and relatives; picnics, farmily reunions, camping, fishing, dancing, grilling out and making appetizers and desserts of all kinds.
Arlene is preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Terry, and Brian; her husband Arlo in 2001, after 50 years of marriage; parents-in-law, Hugo and Hattie; four brothers, Raymond; Leonard and his wife, Ruth; Milo; and Orville and his wife, Marie; one sister, Florence and her husband, Lawrence; sister-in-law, Lois and her husband, Clifford; brothers-in-law, Roy and Wilbur; one niece, Lila and one nephew, Jeff. Survivors include her son, Kevin; one brother, Arlo and his wife, Marlys; sisters-in-law: Elvira ; Deloris and her husband, Roger; Arlene; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
