Arnold Hollander

Arnold Verdale Hollander was born March 31, 1938, the son of Albert and Clara Petersen Hollander. He passed away Monday, February 11, 2013, at the Denison Care Center in Denison, Iowa, at the age of 74.
Arnold was born in Manilla, Iowa. He received his education in the Denison Community Schools. Arnold joined the Marine Corps in 1955 and was honorably discharged in 1958. He began working as a lumberjack for Virgil Pullen and then Midwest Walnut Company in Council Bluffs, Iowa, for nearly 20 years. He moved to New Boston, Illinois, and worked at Thatchers Plastic Company in Muscatine, Iowa, in the maintenance department. Arnold moved back to Denison and went to work for IBP as a truck driver until his health forced him to retire. Arnold also owned and operated a tree business in addition to his job at IBP. Arnold was united in marriage to Ruth Ferguson Pressley on January 23, 1961, in New Boston, Illinois.
Arnold enjoyed making wooden lawn ornaments, playing Bingo, and going to the casino. He also liked to go fishing and hunting, taking in as much outdoor activity as he could. Lake View was a favorite spot for Arnold to fish. His favorite shows to watch on TV were Wheel of Fortune, the Jackie Gleason Show, westerns, and football.
Arnold was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Jim Hollander; four sisters: Darlene Gaffee and her husband, Bud; Carol Pullen; Alice Peffer and Ruby in infancy; and one sister-in-law, Delores Hollander. Survivors include his wife, Ruth of Denison; special friend, Ron Schwaller of Denison; four sons: Cary Hollander of Austin, Texas; Scott Hollander and special friend, Christine Martin of Denison; Bradley Hollander and his wife, Linda of Roseville, California; and Willard Pressley and his wife, Bernice of Denison; two daughters: Barbara OBrien and her husband, Pat of Denison; and Sharon Stropes and her husband, Tim of Charter Oak; one daughter-in-law, Connie Hollander of Remsen, Iowa; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several step great-grandchildren; four brothers: LeRoy Hollander and friend, Barb Fisher of New Ulm, Minnesota; Ted Hollander and his wife, Gloria of Denison; Donnie Hollander and friend, Cindy Larson of Denison; Jeff Hollander and his wife, Barb of Manilla; four sisters: Lois Hicks and her husband, Larry of Russellville, Arkansas; Elsie Ladehoff; Jolene Ball; and Karen Anderson and her husband, Ron; all of Denison; other relatives and friends.
