Barbara Magill

Barbara Jean Magill was born December 9, 1928, the daughter of Hans and Hazel Sciford Senhen. She passed away Tuesday, November 19, 2013, at the Denison Care Center in Denison, Iowa, at the age of 84.
Barb was born on a farm near Ricketts, Iowa. She was baptized in Christ on January 13, 1929, by Rev. A. Amstein and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Soldier Township, Charter Oak, Iowa, on May 31, 1942, by Rev. G.H. Schoefer. Barb attended area schools in her elementary years and high school in Charter Oak, Battle Creek, and graduated from Wall Lake High School with the class of 1946. After graduation Barb worked for Merril Mackey at the Drug Store in Wall Lake before moving to Denison, Iowa, in April 1949. At that time she became employed at J.C. Penney Co. as a cashier until she was united in marriage to Harlow Virgil Magill on August 27, 1950, at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. The couple was blessed with two children, Vicki and Lee. They farmed near Charter Oak and continued until 1983, when they moved into Charter Oak. They purchased the drug store in Charter Oak and operated it. Barb also worked for Staley’s Food Service in Charter Oak for many years.
Barb was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She loved to bake, entertain company and everything about farm life. In her leisure time she enjoyed attending horse shows where her family showed horses. She also enjoyed playing cards with friends and neighbors over the years. Barb was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Charter Oak, where she served on many committees and functions. She was also a member of the Willow Modern Homemakers, Silver Spurs Saddle Club and a 4-H Leader for several years. She moved to the Denison Care Center in October of 2012.
Barb was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Virgil in 2008 and her half-brother, James Moeller. Survivors include one daughter, Vicki Stevens and her husband, David of Denison; one son, Lee Charles Magill and his wife, Darci; two grandchildren, Lee Magill and his wife,Mandy; and Meghan Magill all of Plano, Texas; one great-grandson, James Magill; a sister-in-law, Diane Moeller of Minnesota; other relatives and friends.
