Barry Wayne Blackman was born November 14, 1949, the son of Lyle and Mina Blackman. He passed away Wednesday, October 8, 2014, at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa, at the age of sixty-four.
Barry was born in Denison, Iowa. He received his education in the Denison Community Schools graduating with the class of 1968. After high school, Barry worked at the Dr. Pepper plant and the Chain-O-Egg. He then went on to work for area farmers as a hired hand, for Auld’s flower shop, The Dubuque Packing Company, and Midwest Industries in Ida Grove. He was united in marriage to Marie Miller on September 8, 1968.
Throughout his life, Barry enjoyed fishing for cat fish - regardless of the winter temperature. He adored being outdoors and Nelson Park was one of his favorite spots to fish. In his leisure time, he could be found hunting, bird-watching, neighbor-watching, playing BINGO, vacationing and traveling across the U.S., or with his 1955 Chevrolet BelAir. He was a great fan of music and of both John Wayne and Elvis movies. Barry loved to socialize with family and friends, and he was a known jokester.
Preceding Barry in death were: his parents, Lyle and Mina Hattery Blackman; two brothers, Gary and Randy; and one sister, Sandy. Survivors include his wife, Marie; three sons, Travis and his wife, Amy; Tyson and his friend, Kayla; Tony and his wife, Becky; and one daughter, Tiffany and her husband, Tim; twelve grandchildren; one brother, Bob and his wife, Mary; other relatives and friends.
