Beatrice Joy Doyle, daughter of Wilford and Elsie (Vandeman) Moore, was born January 12, 1925, at home near Botna, Iowa. She passed away on Thursday, March 17, 2011, at the McCreedy Home in Washington, Iowa, at the age of eighty-six.
She attended country school and graduated from Manning High School in 1942. She attended Commercial Extension in Omaha, Nebraska, and came home to teach country school.
Joy was united in marriage with Dr. Keith A. Doyle, DVM, on May 23, 1945. They made their home in Westside, Iowa, and had five children. Early in their marriage, Joy worked as a substitute teacher, including a long term assignment in 7th and 8th grades in the Westside Community School in Westside, Iowa. She worked with her husband after they opened the Doyle Pet Medical Clinic. She continued to work with the small animal practice after it was sold to the Breda Veterinary Clinic after Dr. Doyles death in 1980.
She was a member of the United Church Westside. She taught Sunday school, was president of the Mothers Club, participated in the choir, and served on the Church Council. She was a longtime Brownie leader, president of the PTA, Past Worthy Matron of Eastern Star, and served as County Secretary of the American Legion Auxiliary.
She lived in her home in Westside until she moved to Iowa City to live with her daughter, Julie, due to failing health in December of 2007. She moved to the McCreedy Home in Washington, Iowa, after a fall in July 2010.
Joy is preceded in death by her parents; husband; one brother, Gale; one son-in-law, Dean; and her beloved dog Holly. She is survived by her children: Kathleen and her husband, James; Dr. Daniel and his wife, Linda; Steven; Dr. Kimberly and her husband, John; and Julie and her husband, Steven; 11 grandchildren: Andrew, Erin, Nathan, Ryan, Coleen, Kaitlyn, Tina, Keith,Victoria, Elizabeth, and Megan; six great-grand children.; one sister-in-law, JoAnn; other relatives and many friends.
The family requests any donations be made to United Church Westside or Hospice of Washington County.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 A.M., Saturday, March 19, 2011, at the United Church in Westside, Iowa. Pastor Richard Francis officiated the service and graveside rites held at Westside Cemetery in Westside. Organist Janine Kock provided accompaniment for congregational hymns "Precious Lord Take My Hand," "Come Sing, O Church In Joy," and "Great Is Thy Faithfulness." Servings as pallbearers were Dr. Elizabeth Fara Carter, Andrew Almelien, Erin Almelien, Victoria Doyle, Kaitlyn Doyle, Nathan Doyle, Coleen Doyle, Keith Doyle, Megan Fara, Ryan Doyle, and Tina Mills. The family invited everyone to return to the church for fellowship and lunch served by the United Church Women. The Huebner Funeral Home inWestside was in charge of arrangements.
