Ben Henry Siemer was born January 18, 1914, the son of Henry and Christena Losch Siemer. He passed away Wednesday, July 3, 2013, at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa, at the age of 99.
Ben was born on a farm near Dow City, Iowa. He received his education in a rural school near his home. After completing his education he began farming near Dow City. He was united in marriage to Dorothy Glawinski on August 16, 1933, in Dunlap, Iowa. The couple made their home on the farm and were blessed with the birth of three children. Dorothy passed away in 1978. On March 23, 1979, Ben was married to Helen Langenfeld Feser.
Ben loved farming, especially raising and trading horses and mules. He also did carpentry work for thirty-five years. He was a member of the Dow City Community Club, serving as president for two years and was honored to be chosen Grand Marshall of the 100th year Centennial. He was also a member of the Saddle Club and Church Council for three years. In his leisure time Ben enjoyed socializing in a game of cards with his friends, watching westerns on televison, attending parades, square dancing and round dancing and was a member of a square dancing club. He retired from farming in 1986 and continued to live on the farm until moving to Dow City in 1997.
Ben was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Dorothy; and one son, DeWayne on August 17, 1968. Survivors include one son, Richard Siemer and special friend, Pat Blankman; one daughter, Barb Kenkel and her husband, Ron; wife, Helen, all of Dow City; two step-sons, Randy Feser and his wife, Pam of Ogden, Utah; Dean Feser and his wife, Kim of Defiance; one step-daughter, Jane Freund and her husband, Phil of Dow City; 8 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren; 8 step grandchildren and 18 step great-grandchildren; and one sister, Evelyn Jochims of Dunlap; many other relatives and friends.
