Benjamin Randall Monk was born February 18, 1982, in Omaha, Nebraska. He passed away in an automobile accident near Charter Oak, Iowa, on Tuesday, January 31, 2012, at the age of twenty-nine.
He was baptized in Christ and confirmed on February 7, 2010, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Soldier Township in Charter Oak, Iowa. Ben received his early education in the East Monona School District and his high school education at Boyer Valley Community Schools, graduating with the class of 2000. He attended classes at Western Iowa Tech Community College in Sioux City, Iowa. On February 13, 2010, Ben was united in marriage to Paula Meseck at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ute, Iowa. Currently he was employed at AmPride Truck Plaza in Denison, Iowa, in the parts department.
Ben loved to be around people and had a pleasant smile. His nieces and nephews were very special to him and he would enjoy the time he got to spend with them. Movies in the theater or on television were something Paula and Ben loved to watch together. He also liked to play games of all sorts, especially if they were electronic. Other favorite activities Ben enjoyed were playing cards, camping, and fireworks on July 4th. Ben was not afraid to lend a hand in the kitchen cooking meals while mixing up various dishes. As a young boy in old town Moorhead, Ben and the neighborhood kids formed a bicycle club and they would ride their decorated bikes in parades complete with matching t-shirts.
Ben was preceded in death by his grandparents, Dale and June Monk; and one brother, Dustin Grabble. Survivors include his wife, Paula; his mother and step-father, Jennifer and Jack; three brothers, Adam Jack; and John; one sister, Ashley; his grandparents, Jack and LaVonne; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Lawrence and Bonnie; two brothers-in-law, Neal and his wife, Lisa; Leon and his wife, Julie; two sisters-in-law, Brenda and her husband, Lorne; and Earleen; nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.
