Benjamin Obrecht

June 18, 1927 — March 24, 2012

Benjamin Peter Obrecht "Bud," the son of Benjamin John and Edna Cecelia Swanson Obrecht, passed away Saturday, March 24, 2012, at Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa, at the age of 84.
Bud was born June 18, 1927, in Kiron, Iowa. He was baptized in Christ on March 23, 1950, and later confirmed at Friedens Evangelical Church. He later became a member of United Church of Christ in Schleswig. He received his education in Kiron and graduated from Kiron High School with the class of 1943. After high school, Bud attended Morningside College. He entered the U.S. Army on September 21, 1945, and was honorably discharged on July 31, 1947. On September 23, 1948, Bud was united in marriage to the love of his life, "Junie" at Friedens Evangelical and Reformed Church in Schleswig. The couple was blessed with five children and farmed until 1963, when they moved to the town of Schleswig. Bud worked for Brady Trucking and Back Trucking as a dispatcher. He served on the Schleswig School Board and was instrumental in helping Schleswig Sausage get started. Later he worked for Dalton Auto and Coleman Motors as a car salesman until retiring.
Bud loved his family. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren were his pride and joy. He enjoyed fishing trips to South Dakota, Canada, and especially going to Beckers Resort at Lake Benton, Minnesota. He liked to watch baseball, golf, and play two-handed Pinochle.
Bud was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, LaJune; son Keith; one daughter, Gloria; his grandson, Benjamin; and his brother, Gayle Obrecht. Survivors include three daughters: Linda and her husband, Howard; Brenda and her husband, Scott; Marla and her husband, Alan; one daughter-in-law, Sandra; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law: Millie; Elvera; and Ardene; many other relatives and friends.
