Berdena Mae Gonnerman was born January 23, 1926, the daughter of John and Frieda Aldag. She passed away Wednesday, March 13, 2012, at the Odebolt Nursing and Rehab Center in Odebolt, Iowa, at the age of 86.
Berdena was born in Ida Grove, Iowa, and was baptized in Christ on October 3, 1926, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Hanover Township, in Charter Oak, Iowa. She received her education in country schools near her home. She attended beauty school in Sioux City, Iowa, and when she graduated, she moved to Denison and worked as a beautician for several years. Berdena was united in marriage to Raymond Gonnerman on February 1, 1950, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Charter Oak. The couple made their home on the Aldag family farm and was blessed with the birth of three children.
Berdena was a devoted wife and worked hard on the farm, helping her husband with the chores, raising her family, and tending to the garden. She loved visiting with her family and friends and helping care for her grandchildren. Her family enjoyed the wisdom she shared with them. Berdena was an excellent cook and enjoyed sewing.
Berdena was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Raymond in 2006; on daughter-in-law, Rita in 2008; and one sister-in-law, Darlene. Survivors include two sons, Steve, and Duane; one daughter, Rhonda and her husband, Ryan; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; brothers-in-law Wallace and his wife, Shirley; and Cliff; other relatives and friends.
