Betty L. Johannsen

Betty Lou Johannsen was born in her Grandma Jahn’s house in Denison on February 5, 1936, the daughter of Gordon and Erma Aldag. She passed away September 21, 2015 at her home in Schleswig, Iowa at the age of seventy-nine.
Betty was educated in Crawford county and graduated from Schleswig high school in 1954. On January 20, 1957, she was united in marriage to Murlin Johannsen and the couple was blessed with two children, Craig and Leisha. In their first year of marriage, Betty was employed at the First National Bank in Denison. Betty then spent the remainder of her working life as a wife, mother and homemaker. She was hard-working, taking part in all of the farm activities such as, operating the baler, separating cream, milking cows, patching clothes and much, much more. Betty always had a huge and beautiful garden. She was a skilled baker and was known to make her “Betty Bars” for every birthday and occasion.Betty loved to dance at polkas, square dances and wedding dances; as well as spending time with friends and family socializing and playing cards.
Betty was an exceptional mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She loved the time she spent with her family and her grandkids were her happiness. To hold a newborn or a child was pure bliss for Betty. She loved all animals and enjoyed caring for them in her yard and rescuing any animal in need.
Betty was preceded in death by her grandparents and parents: Gordon and Erma Aldag; brothers-in-law; Paul Moore and Les Schultz. Survivors include her husband, Murlin; two children: Craig and Leisha; four grandchildren:Jerrod (Talsha); Derek (fianc Tiffanie); Jessica (Josh); Jackie; five great-grandchildren: Colton, Brayton and Taryn; Huntur; June; one sister, Pat; two brothers; Bill (Peggy); Ronald (Nancy); two sisters-in-law: Marleen (Verne); Sharon (Dennis); many other nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.
