Betty Matz

Betty Jean Matz was born August 30, 1924, the daughter of Guy and Golda Mason Buffinton. She passed away Friday, July 20, 2012, at the Creighton University Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska, at the age of 87.
Betty was born in Deloit, Iowa. She attended country school near her home and graduated from Deloit High School. She played clarinet in the high school band. After graduation Betty attended Business College in Omaha, Nebraska. She was united in marriage to John Matz in 1945 at her family home. The couple made their first home in Lincoln, Nebraska. Later they moved to Rochester, Minnesota, where she served as a clerk in the courthouse. After her husbands death in 1961, she moved to Faribault, Minnesota, and took a position as district manager for Avon, a position she held until retiring in 1984. She spent her initial years of retirement in Fremont, Nebraska, then moving to Denison, Iowa, to be closer to family.
Betty was much more than a loving aunt to her nieces and nephews. She was a fabulous cook and loved to create new dishes in the kitchen. Betty was an avid reader of novels, mysteries, and biographies. She was a fashionable lady and was always adorned with jewelry to match her outfit. Her home was decorated with antiques and household treasures she collected throughout her lifetime. Betty and her husband enjoyed camping, fishing, and hunting. She was a member of the Grace Evangelical Free Church in Denison.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Evelyn in infancy; and her husband, John. Survivors include one sister, Opal; one niece, Shirley and her husband, Tom; two nephews, Don; and Keith and his wife, Teri; other relatives and friends.
