Betty Darlene Petersen was born February 28, 1928, the daughter of Joseph and Sophie Bertram Hulsebus. She passed away Sunday, December 11, 2011, at her home in Omaha, Nebraska, at the age of 83.
Betty was born in Buck Grove, Iowa. She attended rural school and then started working at Evelyns Caf in Denison. It was while employed there, she met her future husband, Leslie Petersen. They were united in marriage on July 18, 1948, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Dow City, Iowa; and to this union was born five children. Betty also worked at the New Castle Retirement Center in Omaha and was the head laundress.
Betty was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who enjoyed her family. She was a fun person to be around and liked to garden, play cards, and go camping and fishing with her husband. She enjoyed dancing, especially to Lawrence Welk music and polkas. Betty was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Omaha, Nebraska, until it closed.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leslie in 2001; one brother, Boyd Hulsebus; and one sister, Lorna Petersen and her husband, Elmer. Survivors include four daughters: Carol; Diane; June; and Vicki; one son, Rodney; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one brother, Gerald and his wife, Mary; and one sister-in-law, Dorothy; other relatives and friends.
