He worked for farmers for a year, then attended and graduated from Lincoln Technical Institute in Des Moines, Iowa, for automotive mechanic training.
While growing up on the farm near Deep River, Brian helped with field work, rode bicycles and then motorcycles, hunted and fished with the neighborhood guys or was welding still another gadget together. During high school he sang in several of Mr. Rohloff’s groups. After Lincoln Tech, he worked as a mechanic, then started driving truck over the road. He moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado, and worked 20 years for Sinton Dairy where he drove semi most of those years.
He married Roselyn Brown in July 1988. To them a daughter, Chelsea Marie, was born in 1989. Ros and Brian were married only a short time.

In September 1994, Brian was seriously injured in a motorcycle accident. After several surgeries, five weeks in the hospital and six months of recovery, he was back to work at Sinton’s. He’d say, “I have a chunk of metal from my right knee to my hip with 11 screws and a 3/8 lag bolt. And I don’t have a bellybutton anymore.”
Brian moved to western Iowa in 2010, where he worked doing odd jobs, and he loved helping Hans with harvest.
