Bruce E. Hanneman

December 24, 1923 — August 3, 2017

Bruce Elmer Hanneman, son of Emil and Alvena Hanneman was born on December 24, 1923, at the family farm in rural Schleswig, Iowa. He died on Thursday, August 3, 2017, at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital, Denison, Iowa.
Bruce was baptized and confirmed at the Evangelical and Reformed Church in Schleswig and attended high school at Charter Oak, Iowa. After graduating aircraft school in Omaha, he worked in a military aircraft plant there. He enlisted in the United States Army, serving in Texas and Germany until his honorable discharge as a Staff Sergeant in 1946.
While serving in the military in Tyler, Texas, Bruce was united in marriage to Alvera Sprock of Charter Oak, Iowa, on December 21, 1944. They were the parents of two daughters and a son. After service, they started farming in Arthur, Iowa, and then moved back to the home place in Schleswig. They farmed alone until 1970 when they started farming with their daughter, Diana, and son-in-law, Marlowe Schultz.
Bruce loved farming and especially loved raising cattle. He and Marlowe eventually incorporated to create BH&MS Farms, LTD and farmed together for over 30 years. They made a terrific team. Bruce and Alvera retired to Schleswig in 2005 and moved to Silveridge in 2011.
Bruce was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He was a member of the Schleswig VFW Post #3930 and was very active in the United Church of Christ. He loved socializing with family and friends. He enjoyed playing cards, watching birds, feeding squirrels, doing word puzzles, and keeping up with TV news programs. Most recently he has enjoyed activities with friends at Silveridge.
Bruce was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son; his loving wife Alvera in 2011; two sons-in-law: Richard Kuhlmann and Marlowe Schultz; one twin brother, Byron Hanneman and his wife, Delores; two sisters-in-law, Lorraine Sprock and Vernet Williams and her husband, Frank; one brother-in law, Lewis Sprock and his wife, Shirley.
