Carl H. Segebart

Carl Henry Segebart was born November 21, 1927, the son of Henry and Anna Segebart. He died Tuesday, August 30, 2016, at the Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison, Iowa, at the age of eighty-eight.
Carl was born at home on his family farm near Vail, where he lived until recently moving to Denison. He was baptized at Trinity Lutheran Church on May 12, 1928 and later confirmed there on April 2, 1944. He received his education in a rural school near his home and graduated from the Manilla High School with the class of 1946. After completing his education Carl helped on the family farm. With the help of mutual friends, Carl met Berniece Petersen at the Denison bowling alley. On June 19, 1949, Carl was united in marriage to Berniece at the Zion Lutheran Church Parsonage in Denison. The couple made their home with Carl’s parents until 1951 when they moved to a farm in Hayes Township, owned by Carl’s uncle. In 1964, the couple moved back to the home farm where they lived until recently moving to Denison.
Carl was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Manilla, where he was very active. He served 16 years on the Crawford County Electric Board, as well as 12 years on the Agriculture Stabilization Conservation Board in Denison. For 20 years on the Manilla Manor Board, and from 1963-1964, he was a member of the Ar-We-Va Board of Education, followed by many years on the Manilla School Board. He also served on the Cattleman Assocation, ASC, Pork Producers and WIPCO. Carl was a very loving and caring husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who enjoyed spending time with family and emphasized the importance of education. In his leisure time he enjoyed bowling, dancing, socializing in a game of cards, cruising to Ireland, Hawaii and Alaska and traveling to other states. He was a master of one liners with a quick wit.
Carl was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Terry; one brother, Alex and his wife, Frances; one sister, Madonna; sisters-in-law, Marie and her husband, Ralph, Margaret and her husband, Marvine and Anna and her husband, Wilbur; brothers-in-law: Allen, John and his wife, Loween, Leonard, Edmund and his wife, Marion. Survivors include his wife, Berniece; three sons: Cole and his wife, Deborah; James and his wife, Carol and Ryan and his wife, Kari; two daughters: Debra and her husband, Kieth; Doreen and her husband, Jason; fifteen grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; one step-great-grandchild; one sister, Betty; two sisters-in-law, Betty and her husband, Dennis; and Arlis ; one brother-in-law, Earl and his wife, Barb; other relatives and friends.
