Carmen Ann Hamilton was born on July 14, 1951, the daughter of Oskar J. and Margie (Rubendall) Jurgens in Denison, IA. Born a preemie, under four pounds, they did not know if she would make it. She was a fighter then and proved to be a fighter her entire life.
Carmen was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She went to Ar-We-Va Schools and graduated with the class of 1969. She loved baton twirling and playing the clarinet in the band.
Carmen met Bob Hamilton in November of 1969, and they were united in marriage on March 20, 1970, in Elk Point, South Dakota. They were blessed with four daughters and made their home in Denison, IA.
Carmen relished working at the dance studio and watching her daughters dance and do gymnastics. She also enjoyed being a CNA and an Aid at both the hospital and Eventide (especially working with the elderly because they loved her unconditionally).
She was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Denison and a member of the Ladies Guild. She loved making memories by going on excursions with her family, having parties with her beloved friends, and snuggling with her dog, Murphy.
Carmen passed away on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison after a hard battle against cancer at the age of 73 years, seven months and 18 days. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Rosemary Schrum.
Carmen is survived by her husband of nearly 55 years, Bob Hamilton of Denison; four daughters: Christi (Brian) Scherber of Richmond, Minnesota, Melissa (Rusty) Siefken of Omaha, Nebraska, Kelly (Jaymie) Harper of Sioux Center, Iowa, and Pam (Jarad) Gronau of Urbandale, Iowa; 16 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren; brother, Michael Jurgens of Clear Lake, Iowa; and many other relatives and friends.
Visitation with family greeting friends will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 9, 2025, at the Huebner Funeral Home in Denison. Her funeral service will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, March 10, 2025, at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Denison. Interment will follow in Crawford Heights Memory Gardens.
