Catherine Ann Petersen was born September 15, 1936, the daughter of Leonard and Mary Robinson Powers. She passed away Wednesday, March 14, 2012, at her home in Schleswig, Iowa, at the age of 75.
Catherine was born in Denison, Iowa. She received her education at the St. Ann Catholic Academy in Vail, Iowa, graduating in 1954. On June 9, 1958, Catherine was united in marriage to Carlton Petersen at St. Anns Catholic Church in Vail by Fr. Clark. The couple made their home in Vail for a year and then moved to Schleswig. They were blessed with the birth of two children, Kimberly and Kurt. She kept busy raising her family and keeping books for her husbands construction business.
Catherine was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a great cook and loved to entertain family and friends. In her younger years, she was a good athlete and liked to play softball. Golf and bowling were other activities she and Carlton enjoyed together in more recent years. Catherine also enjoyed spending time gathering with her girlfriends to play cards. She served as the first lady of Schleswig for 14 years. Catherine was a woman of great faith and an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ida Grove, Iowa.
Catherine was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Rosalie; and one brother, George. Survivors include her husband, Carlton; one daughter, Kimberly and her husband, Dumas; one son, Kurt and his wife, Tracy; two grandchildren, Taylor and Alexa; two brothers, Jack and Joseph and his wife, Gina; six sisters, Sally and her husband, Jack; Joan and her husband, Don; Jean; Mary Carol and her husband, Ralph; Nancy and her husband, Paul; and Jane; along with other family and friends.
