Charlene Faye Gries was born on September 29, 1949 in Omaha, Nebraska to parents Donald and Dorothy Gries. Charlene was baptized at St. John Lutheran Church in Charter Oak, Iowa. She was later confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Ute.
Charlene began her school days at Holly Springs School in Holly Springs, Iowa. After her second grade there, she, along with her younger brother Mark, moved with their parents to Ute, Iowa, where she continued her education at Charter Oak-Ute Community Schools. Charlene graduated from there in 1967. While in high school, she excelled in a variety of extracurricular activities and enjoyed being a cheerleader with her friends.
Charlene was accepted to Jennie Edmundson School of Nursing in Council Bluffs, Iowa where she graduated in 1971. She began her nursing career in Council Bluffs and continued in the nursing profession by working at Children's Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska for many years. The balance o of her career was spent in medical transcription.
Upon her return to Charter Oak, Charlene utilized her nursing skills to be a strong resource to her father, Don, in his later years.
Charlene occupied herself with crocheting and needlepoint and also enjoyed gardening. Charlene was a proud Nebraska football fan for all of her adult life. Most importantly, Charlene had great love for her nieces and nephews.
Charlene is survived by her mother Dorothy, brother Mark (Melody), sister Karen, and sister Kristi (Roger), as well as two uncles, Terry and Rolan one aunt , Judy . Along with cousins , Charlene is survived by three nieces, one nephew, three grandnieces, and two grandnephews. She is preceeded in death by her father Don, two aunts, and one cousin.
