Charlene Mae Hoffman was born May 6, 1935, the daughter of Walter and Leona Ruch. She died at the Reed House, Sunday, November 22, 2015, at the age of eighty.
Charlene was born in Carroll, Iowa. After graduating from high school, she attended Cosmetology School in Sioux City. On October 1, 1955, she was united in marriage to Richard Hoffman at St. Ann Catholic Church in Vail, Iowa by Fr. Clark. They settled on the family farm near Vail and were blessed with the birth of four children.
Charlene was a sincere woman, taking her faith truthfully as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, and a caregiver for all. She enjoyed attending her grandchildren’s sporting events, drama activities and music concerts. Her benevolence extended beyond her family as a volunteer with the Crawford County Hospital Auxiliary, the American Legion Auxiliary in Vail and Westside, St. Ann’s Women’s Groups and offered time there whenever needed. Her continued trust in Jesus Christ was further evidenced by enjoying life’s ups and downs, knowing that her Lord and Savior would always give her support. Charlene was a member of the St. Ann Catholic Church; the Parish Women’s Group; Vail Red Hat Group; The Get Together Club and Birthday Coffee group.
Charlene was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Richard, five years earlier on November 21, 2010; one brother, David; brothers-in-law: Ambrose & Raymond; Bob. Survivors include two sons: Dennis and his wife, Sharon; and Mark and his wife, Kristi; two daughters; Lisa and her husband, Scot; Joni and her husband, Theodore; fourteen grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; four brothers: Ron and his wife, Dianne; Phil and his wife, Sue; Mike and special friend, Shirley; Randy; one sister, Diane and her husband, Tom; brother-in-law, Ralph and his wife, Doris; sisters-in-law; Shirley and Dolores; many other relatives and many friends.
