Charles E. Duncan

March 7, 1934 — September 4, 2019

Charles Edward Duncan was born on March 7, 1934, to David and Ruby (Hass) Duncan at their home in Denison, Iowa. At age 15, he was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church. He received his education in the Denison public schools and graduated with the class of 1953. While in high school, he enjoyed participating in football, basketball and track. Upon graduation, he entered the US Army and after basic training, spent 18 months in Germany. He entered Iowa State College, which became Iowa State University in 1960, the same year he graduated with a degree in Landscape Architecture. He began his career with the National Park Service in Omaha, and then moved to Lincoln, Nebraska, and spent 30 years in the Parks Division of the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission.
Chuck married his high school sweetheart, Roxana Jedele, in December, 1955, and to this union six children were born. Chuck was involved in coaching his kids in their sports. They vacationed at a small resort on Deer Lake in Minnesota for many years with their family, and after retirement, they bought a small cabin and enjoyed spending 5 months each summer on Deer Lake. After 37 years in Lincoln, Chuck's wish to return to Denison became a reality. He spent his final years back at home where he grew up. During that time, he served as a member of the Arbor Committee, helping to beautify the city with trees brought him much joy. He passed away at his cabin on the lake on September 4, 2019.
Preceding Chuck in death: his father, David; daughter Amy (in infancy); and brother, Keith. Left to remember him is his wife of 63 years, his son, Greg (Karen); his daughters, Jeanne Scott (Bart), Susan Robak (Kurt); and Jill Hoover all of Lincoln, Nebraska, and Julie (Scott) Babb of Nampa, ID. 11 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren; his mother Ruby, brother David (Marcia Kracht) sister Barbara Lueck (Kenneth), and sister-in-law, Sharon Duncan.
