Charlie Thompson

Charles Lynn Thompson was born June 22, 1941, the son of Gilbert and Ordella (Fossel) Thompson. He passed away Friday, December 23, 2011, at his home in Denison, Iowa, at the age of 70.
Charlie was born in Des Moines, Iowa. He was baptized in Christ in Des Moines, Iowa, on October 12, 1941, and later confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Schaller, Iowa, on May 29, 1955. He attended Schaller Community Schools, graduating with the class of 1959. Following graduation, he worked for Pyle Truckline in Schaller until moving to Denison to begin work at IBP in 1964. IBP was bought by Tyson Foods and he retired from Tyson in 2006. Charlie was united in marriage to Leona Norton at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Schaller on May 28, 1961, and to this union was born three children.
Charlie loved his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandson. He was a motorcycle enthusiast and a member of the Western Iowa Cycle Club. Charlie was a very social guy and twice a day you could find him downtown visiting with his buddies in the coffee club. He enjoyed watching football and NASCAR on television and enthusiastically attended local car races in Denison and Harlan. Charlie liked to trade cars and always kept his vehicles meticulously polished. In his spare time you could find him tinkering in the yard, playing with his dogs, or scouting Craigslist.com for something unique to buy. Charlie and Leona made it their Friday evening ritual to go out for supper together. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Denison.
Charlie was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife, Leona; two sons, Larry and his wife, Julie, and Darren and special friend, Maretta; one daughter, Lori and her husband Mike; three grandchildren: Brandon and his wife, Jessie and their son, Emerson Charles; Nathan and his fianc Tina and her children, Tristan and Jordyn; Brittany and special friend, Jesy; one brother, Donald and his wife, Deborah; one sister, Norma Jean and her husband, David; other relatives and friends.
