Chuck Shives

Edward "Chuck" Shives was born December 24, 1958, the son of Charles and Anna Mae Hoffard Shives. He died Monday, June 20, 2011, at the Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa, at the age of fifty-two.
Chuck was born in Denison, Iowa, and received his education in the Denison Community School system, graduating with the class of 1978. After high school he worked for Farmland Foods for 10 years, then attended college at ICS in Omaha, Nebraska. He then worked the last 24 years testing and programming computer systems for various companies. In 2004, he and his wife moved to Des Moines where he continued working with computer systems and part-time for Lowes. He was united in marriage to Lynne Boger on September 8, 1978, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Denison. The couple was blessed with the birth of three wonderful children.
He was a very active and driven man, both personally and professionally. He reignited his passion for running and bettering his health through training for marathons, and was a participant at the Drake Open in 2011. He also enjoyed golfing with his children and playing basketball with this grandchildren. Watching movie marathons and televison programs such as NCIS and Criminal Minds, were some of his indoor activities. Chuck liked to watch football on television and had the opportunity to attend several Minnesota Viking football games. The Celtics were his favorite basketball team to follow and he was a huge Jimmie Johnson NASCAR fan as well. Camping was an enjoyable way he and his wife would spend vacation time throughout the U.S. and he loved to see the country riding his motorcycle.
Chuck was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister Sharlene. He is survived by his wife, Lynne; two sons: Jason and his wife, Sarah; and Jeffery and his, fiance Brianne; one daughter, Jessica and her husband, Kris; five grandchildren; Preston, Colton, Brayden, Addison, and Aaron; four sisters: Candi and her husband Steve; Pamand her husband, Randy; Teri and her husband, Dave; and Jackie and her husband, Roger; one brother, Bob and his wife, Traci; and one brother-in-law, Barry and his wife, Sue; other relatives and friends.
