Clarence Virgil Friedrichsen

Clarence Virgil Friedrichsen was born on May 14, 1926, to Knud and Henrietta (Jensen) Friedrichsen in Crawford County on a farm near Kiron, Iowa. He attended school until eighth grade and then worked on farms in the area. Later, Clarence honorably served in the United States Navy. On December 4, 1947, Clarence married Ruby Schultz at St. John Lutheran Church, in Stockholm Township, near Kiron; three children were born to this union: Lois, Neal and Ross. Clarence drove a truck for HM Larson and started to farm in 1949. Through the years he did various jobs of corn shelling and baling hay for many farmers. In the late 1960's, Clarence and Ruby purchased a family farm near Kiron.
Clarence was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig, Iowa. He enjoyed many trips with Ruby; some of their favorites were, Hawaii, Florida and their tour of the White House in Washington, D.C. He also liked camping and fishing. He treasured his morning coffee with friends at Hy-Vee in Denison and in Kiron. He especially loved his children and grandchildren.
Clarence died at the Odebolt Care Center in Odebolt, Iowa, on August 29, 2020, at the age of 94 years, three months and 15 days.
Clarence was preceded in death by his parents; son, Neal Friedrichsen on July 22, 2020; and brother, Glen D. Friedrichsen. He is survived by his wife, Ruby Friedrichsen of Odebolt; two children, Lois and Mitchell Bengford of Odebolt and Ross Friedrichsen of Arthur, Iowa; daughter-in-law, Becky Friedrichsen of Wall Lake, Iowa; seven grandchildren, April Roeder, Wendy Cummins, Angie (Jason) Clark, Kelly (Eric Bieber) Friedrichsen, Casey (Rachel) Friedrichsen, Cole (Shelbi) Bengford and Devin (Dani) Friedrichsen, and; 15 great-grandchildren; sister, Joyleen and Dennis Swanson of Steamboat Springs, Colorado; and a host of other relatives and friends.
