Clayton C. Meyer

Clayton Charles Meyer was born on June 29, 1924, to Charlie and Alma (Schroeder) Meyer in Westside, Iowa. He attended Westside schools. He worked on his parents' farm until he was able to get out on his own and then worked for local farmers in Crawford County.

Clayton married Helen Namanny on September 27, 1952, in Westside and the couple was blessed with the birth of four children: Clark, Marla, Lisha and Tammy. The couple later divorced. Clayton met his second wife, Edna Eisma in Okoboji. They married on June 29, 1979, and the couple lived in Denison.

In the early 1960's, Clayton started working at Iowa Beef Processors. He worked there for over 25 years and retired in 1986. Clayton was a member of Grace Evangelical Free Church in Denison. He enjoyed playing cards, especially euchre. He also enjoyed getting together with family and going to different events at the Denison Senior Center. One could also find him walking around town or enjoying coffee at Trio Café with his friends. You could always count on a friendly conversation when you crossed paths. He was a Minnesota Twins fan and enjoyed watching the World Series.

Clayton passed away on Monday, July 24, 2023, at Gracewell - Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison at the age of 99 years and 25 days.

Clayton was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Marla McKee; wife, Edna Meyer; brothers: Marvin (Jeanae) Meyer and Lyle (JoAnn) Meyer; and sister, Shirley (Pat) Speck. He is survived by three children: Clark Meyer of Vail; Lisha (Richard) Beermann of Dow City, Tammy (Bill) Stouffer of Galena, Missouri; five grandchildren: Casi McKee (Kevin Collins) of Arion, Shayla Silvy of Reeds Spring, Missouri, Keith (Karla) Meyer of Omaha, Nebraska, Kayla (Dylan) Krohnke of Schleswig, Tyrell Ransom of Reeds Spring, Missouri; seven great-grandchildren: Evelyn, Jenna, Shelby, Josslynn, Kashton, Tyann, and L.J.; and many other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 30, 2023, at the Huebner Funeral Home in Denison. His funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, July 31, 2023, at the Huebner Funeral Home in Denison. Burial will follow in the Westside Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the family.
