Connie Jo Gaa was born November 19, 1956, the daughter of Orville Jr. and Esther Slechta. She passed away Tuesday, February 2, 2016, at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll, Iowa, at the age of fifty-nine.
Connie was born in Denison, Iowa, and attended the Denison Community School District. On May 18, 1989, Connie was united in marriage to Mark Gaa, at the First United Methodist Church in Denison, Iowa. The couple was blessed with the birth of four children.
Connie was a very caring and compassionate mother who was a cub scout leader and a soccer coach, and was honored by being awarded coach of the year. Her dedication and service to others was evident throughout her entire life. From her employment at Community Caf, County Home, Madison County Memorial Hospital in Winterset, Iowa, and Spice of Life Delicatessen in Atlantic, Iowa, to her dedication as surrogate mother and grandmother to many, especially her children’s friends, she opened her arms and her heart to everyone. She enjoyed spending quality time with her loved ones. She did this by riding horses with her family, crafting and scrap booking with her daughter, Tara, camping and fishing with her parents and attending cook outs and family gatherings. In her spare time, Connie could be found caring for her plants and vegetable garden, especially tomatoes, canning, and playing Scrabble.
Connie is preceded in death by her father; two daughters: April and Ashlee; and one brother-in-law, Kelly. Survivors include: her husband, Mark; two children: Travis and his wife, Sara; and Tara and her husband, Randy; six grandchildren: Travis Jr., Brooklyn, Kierstyn, Tristan, Keagin and Samantha; two great-grandchildren: Boston and Bentley; her mother, Esther; one brother, Roger; two sisters: Lois and Gloria; many other relatives and friends.
