Craig L. Lynn

Craig Leon Lynn, 70, of Ute, Iowa, passed away Sunday, October 1, 2017, at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa, surrounded by his loved ones. Craig was born in Onawa, Iowa on June 19, 1947, the son of James “Gerald” and Elaine Lynn. Craig grew up on the family farms near Turin and Castana, Iowa, and attended school in Castana graduating from West Monona High School in 1965. Craig was united in marriage to Jennifer Lynn Johnson on June 21, 1968, in Elk Point, South Dakota. He was baptized in Christ and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ute, Iowa, in January of 1970.
Following high school graduation, he was a surveyor for the State of Iowa. He then served his country in the 133rd Infantry of the Iowa National Guard stationed in Colorado Springs, Colorado enlisting May 13, 1968. He received his honorable discharge in February of 1971. Upon returning, he moved to the rural Ute, Iowa, area working with a farmer until 1991 and subsequently worked for Monona County Landfill and Recycling from 1991-1995. He worked for the Iowa Department of Transportation on highway maintenance, plowing snow and the painting crew from 1995 until he retired in October 2009.
Craig was a member of the American Legion Post 442, Ute, Iowa, and St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ute. He also served as a Boy Scout leader in the 70's. His family meant everything to him and he enjoyed the time spent with them, especially with the grandchildren, drawing cartoons, playing cards, puzzles, nature, fishing and hunting. He also enjoyed gardening, spending lots of time with nieces and nephews, watching westerns and making handcrafted wood items such as birdhouses, walking sticks and toy barns.
Craig was preceded in death by his parents; infant sister, Kitty; brother, Rickie; brother-in-law, Dr. John; sister-in-law, Norma; and two nephews, Wade and Cade. Survivors include: his wife of 49 years, Jennifer; two daughters, Heather and her husband, Russell, and their children, Bryan and Cody; and Misty and her husband, Steve, and their children Torii and Mercedes; two sisters, Landra and Candy and her husband, Mike; one brother, Jimmie; in-laws, Leon and his wife, Pat, David and his wife, Lorna, Carolyn and her husband, Don, and Fred and his wife, Jane; other relatives and friends.
