Curtiss Louis Bruhn

Curtiss Louis Bruhn was born September 9, 1941 in Battle Creek, Iowa, the son of Louis and Garnett (Ernest) Bruhn. Curtiss was baptized on October 12, 1941 and later confirmed his faith on April 3, 1955, both at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Charter Oak, Soldier Township. He attended Charter Oak Community School and graduated with the Class of 1959.

Following graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy where he served his country during the Vietnam War until his honorable discharge in 1963. On June 27, 1964, Curtiss was united in marriage with Margorie Petersen. To this union, they were blessed with three children: Brenda, Heidi, and Brent. They made their home in Denison.

In his earlier years, Curtiss worked for McClellan Electric in Denison. Then he was employed at American Protein in Denison until his retirement. Curtiss enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, and gardening. He was a dedicated father and grandfather who cherished his family more than anything.

Curtiss passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 18, 2022 at the Des Moines Veteran Hospital, at the age of 81 years, 1 month, and 9 days. He was preceded in death by his parents; mother and father-in-law: August and Helen Petersen; wife, Margorie Bruhn; brother, Virgil Bruhn and his wife Evelyn; and sister, Lois Harmony.

He is survived by three children: Brenda and her husband Benton Birchard of Manson, Iowa; Heidi and her husband Pat Young of Norwalk, Iowa; and Brent Bruhn and his wife Carol of Ankeny, Iowa; four grandchildren: Austin Birchard and his wife Ashley of Humboldt, Iowa; Avery Birchard and his wife April of Manson, Iowa; Stephanie and her husband Blake Berkley of Norwalk, Iowa; and Steven Young and his wife Shelby of Red Oak, Iowa; seven great-grandchildren: Teaghun Birchard, Phoenix Birchard, Adtikus Birchard, Cyrus Birchard, Roger Birchard, Rowan Young, and Malachi Small; brother, David Bruhn and his wife Susan of Charter Oak; five brothers-in-law: Wayne Harmony of Carroll; Roger Petersen and his wife Maria of Omaha; Gorden Petersen and his wife Jo of Denison; Richard Petersen and his wife MarJean of Denison; and Scott Petersen and his wife Karen of Campbell, California; two sisters-in-law: Sharon and her husband Dale Wellendorf of Ida Grove; and Gail and her husband Doug McLaughlin of Hubbard, Nebraska; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 21, 2022 with a visitation one hour prior to the service from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. all at the Huebner Funeral Home in Denison. Interment with Military Honors will be in the Morgan Cemetery in Schleswig.
