Dale E. Jons

July 4, 1930 — July 22, 2016

Dale Edward Jons was born July 4, 1930, to Henry and Martha (Schoneboom) Jons, in Carroll – the only one of his siblings to be born in a hospital.
The home where Dale grew up was the only home in which he ever lived until entering the Manilla Manor Nursing Home in January, 2014.
He attended Arcadia Public School through the 8th grade and then helped his dad on the farm 1 miles north of Westside which had originally been homesteaded by his grandfather, Henry Jons Sr., in 1899.
Upon his marriage to Marilyn Schroeder on October 6, 1951, Henry and Martha retired to Westside, and Dale and Marilyn raised four children on the farm – Barbara, Steven, Janine and Doreen.
It was a very proud moment for Dale when the Century Farm Award was received at the State Fair in 2006.
Dale was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Arcadia and, after their marriage, the couple were members of the United Presbyterian Church in Westside. Dale was on the committee which worked to join the two churches in Westside into the United Church in 1974 and later on, he was on the committee which planned and fundraised for the new church building completed in 1982.
Dale was active in other community organizations as well, such as the Vail-Westside Presbyterian Church Credit Union, the Westside Community Club, and Westside Little League.
In his spare time he greatly enjoyed fishing, hunting, trapping and cruising the countryside to “check the crops” and pick up cans and bottles. There was no better way to spend an afternoon than hunting coyotes or trapping anything from gophers to muskrats to his prize catch of a 52 pound beaver.
Dale loved his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren greatly, and often expressed his pride in them to others. He loved attending all kinds of school and sporting events as the kids and grandkids were growing and, in recent years, “oohed” and “aahed” at visits from the great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Dale was preceded in death by five brothers and sisters and their spouses: Luella and her husband Orvill Nobiling, Melvin and his wife Opal Jons, Norma and her husband Ivan Frahm, Edna in infancy, and Elsie and her husband Vernon Rickers; his parents-in-law, Herb and Leona Schroeder; two brothers-in-law, Frederick Podey and Wayne Schroeder; as well as a son-in-law, Davey Kock.
Dale is survived by his wife of nearly 65 years, Marilyn; four children, six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren -- daughter Barb and her husband Pat Wuestewald of Manilla and their children: Adam and his wife Stephanie of Norwalk and sons Austin, Brady and Carson; Meghan and her husband Jeff Wilson of Elkhorn, Neb., and their daughters Chloe and Julia; and Molly and her husband Derrick Bradstreet of Shawnee, Kan.; son Steven Jons of Des Moines; daughter Janine Kock of Westside and her children: Kellsey and her husband Wade Morrison of West Des Moines, Kendra and her husband Trent Fredericksen and son Samuel of Bennington, Neb., and Jared Kock and his special friend Kenzie Fitch of Westside; and daughter Doreen and her husband Nicholas Hansen of Westside; two sisters-in-law: Lila Schroeder of Manning and Cleone Podey of Vail; as well as several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.
