Daniel Frederick Throckmorton was born June 10, 1937, the son of Robert and Lilly Rogers Throckmorton. He died Saturday, June 4, 2016, at the Creighton University Medical Center in Omaha at the age of seventy-eight.
Dan was born in Lucas, Iowa, and grew up in Woodburn, Iowa. After completing his education, he enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1954. During his military career, he served at air force bases around the globe that included Offutt Air Force Base near Omaha, Osan Korea and Webb Air Force Base in Texas.
April 3, 1960, Dan was united in marriage to Janice Kahl. The couple was blessed with the birth of two sons. He was baptized in Jesus Christ, December 17, 1971, at St. John Lutheran Church and confirmed in the Lutheran faith there on January 9, 1972. After his Honorable Discharge in 1968, he returned to Iowa and worked for Rick Swarz in Ricketts and Ford Motors before moving to Indianola where he worked for a grain company for a short time. After returning to Crawford County, he worked for Dr. Pepper Bottling Company. He then joined the Crawford County Sheriffs Department and the Denison Police Department where he worked as a police officer for thirty years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Charlotte Gonzalez and her husband, Al; and brother-in-law, Darold Kahl. Survivors include his wife, Janice of Charter Oak; two sons, Ronald and his wife, Patty of Carroll; and Randy of Lakewood, Colorado; two grandchildren, Brittany and her special friend Derrick Thygesen of Carroll; and Brandon and his fiance, Karlie Konrad of Iowa City; one brother, Larry Throckmorton of Van Wert, Iowa; and one sister, Norma Throckmorton of Underwood, Iowa; many other relatives and friends.
