Darlene Ann Clausen, 83, of Gretna, NE, formerly of Denison, died Tuesday, May 29, 2018, at SilverRidge-Gretna. Darlene was born on December 6, 1934, on a farm near Ricketts, Iowa, to Alfred and Anna Schultz.
Darlene was baptized on January 13, 1935, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Hanover Township, by Rev. H. M. Zagel, and confirmed on April 10, 1949, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Charter Oak, IA, by Rev. W. P. Schroeder. She received her elementary education in rural and parochial schools and attended Charter Oak High School, graduating with the class of 1953.
On May 29, 1954, Darlene was united in marriage to Paul G. Clausen at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Charter Oak. They were blessed with the birth of three children.
Darlene taught piano and organ lessons in their home for many years and served as the organist at St. John’s Lutheran Church for 31 years. She was employed by the City of Charter Oak as the city clerk for 27 years.
Darlene was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting, and especially loved spending time with her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother-in-law Emil, and sister-in-law Vernette. Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 64 years, Paul; daughter Dawn and husband Mark; son Rodney and fiance Shirley; and daughter Denise and husband Randy; grandson Matthew and wife Jami; granddaughter Sara and husband Robert; great grandchildren Sidney, Henry, Allison, Katelyn, Bella, Colin and Zeeva; one brother Donald and wife Helen; nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
**Flowers may be offered, the family suggests memorial contributions to Our Savior Lutheran Church Open Arms Preschool.
