Darlene Charlotte Jensen was born August 20, 1927, the daughter of Willam and Louise Groth. She died Saturday, April, 4, 2015, at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa, at the age of eighty-seven.
Darlene was born in Denison, Iowa and received her education in rural country schools in Goodrich Township. She was baptized in Christ September 19, 1927, and later confirmed on April 5, 1942, at Friedens Evangelical Church in Schleswig, Iowa. On June 6, 1948, she was united in marriage to Arlo Jensen and the couple was blessed with the birth of three children. They made their home on the Jensen family farm where she was busy raising her family and assisting Arlo with farm work. In Darlene’s early years, she provided help to the area neighbors. Darlene had many great employment opportunities over the years, working at Jo-Marts, Piccadilly’s, and the Schleswig Bowling Alley. In 1997, Arlo and Darlene purchased Shorty’s Restaurant in Schleswig, and after Arlo’s death in 2002, it was sold to Randy and Pam Jensen, and renamed Cheeta’s.
Darlene was known for being a great cook. She could always be found in the kitchen at the stove, having coffee and sharing stories with family and friends,or baking some of her famous rye bread, cream puffs, home cooked chicken, and fudgins. In her leisure time she loved to play cards, square dance, polka, waltz, and read cookbooks. She had a very strong faith and was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig and active with the Ladies Aid. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends, and will always be well remembered by her kindness, driven and fun loving personality.
Darlene was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers: Vertus and Milroy; one sister, Irene and her husband Herman; nephew, Bryan; sister-in-laws: Donna; Helen and her husband Louis; brother-in-law, Darlo. Survivors include one daughter, Arlene; two sons: Larry and his wife, Judy; Randy and his wife, Pam; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; nine step-great-grandchildren; one brother, Wilbert and his wife Lorraine; four sisters: Marilyn; Betty and her husband, Paul; Margaret and her husband, Erwin; two sister-in-laws: Marlys; Marlene and her husband, Gene; many other relatives and friends
