Darlene D. Hast

July 21, 1929 — September 8, 2015

Darlene Dixie Ann Hast was born on July 21, 1929, the loving daughter of Harold and Elsie Hulsebus. She passed away Tuesday, September 8, 2015 at the age of eighty six.
Darlene was born in Chicago, Illinois and was educated in Iowa. After graduating from high school, Darlene received her teaching certificate from Buena Vista College in Storm Lake, Iowa. She was a teacher at the country school for most of her life. In 1950, Darlene was united in marriage to August "Fritz" Hast, Jr. The couple was blessed with three daughters: Debbie, Pamela, and Sandy.
Darlene was a loving mother and grandmother. She loved visiting and spending time with her family, especially seeing her grandchildren and telling them stories of 'how things were' when she was growing up. She and Fritz enjoyed going fishing and taking trips to Las Vegas together. She looked forward to traveling – whether to Carroll for shopping trips or all the way to Florida with Pam to see her grandkids, Kelly, Zachary, and Austin. Darlene enjoyed sewing, visiting flower gardens, bird watching, and cooking. She was an excellent baker. When her granddaughter Lindsey was a young child, Darlene loved spending time teaching her to bake bread. At Christmas time, Darlene would overwhelm her family with dozens of cookies. She left her family with a legacy of memories which they will cherish always.
Darlene was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, August Jr.; one brother: Clarence; and two sisters: Joyce and DiAnn. Those left to cherish her memory are her daughters: Debbie and her husband Rex; Pamela; and Sandy and her husband Tom; four granddaughters: Kelly and her husband Kerwin; Tracie and her husband David; Mandi and her husband Trevor; Lindsey and her husband Tim; ten great-grandchildren; one great-great grandson, Chevy; three siblings: Janice, Vernon, and Richard; many other relatives and friends.
