Darlene L. Boyens

June 15, 1927 — October 12, 2019

Darlene Louise Boyens was born June 15, 1927, the daughter of Joseph and LaMernie Giermann of rural Kiron, Iowa. She passed away Saturday, October 12, 2019, at Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison, Iowa, at the age of ninety-two.
Darlene was baptized into Christ July 3, 1927, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Stockholm Township, Kiron, Iowa and later confirmed her faith at that same church June 2, 1940. She received her education in the country school near her home. After completing her education, she worked for various families in their homes doing housework or other duties as needed.
On February 16, 1949, Darlene was united in marriage to LaVerne L. Boyens at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Stockholm Township, Kiron, Iowa. The couple first made their home in Denison, Iowa, and later moved to Kiron, where they worked together at Boyens Trucking. Darlene handled the phones, dispatched trucks and did the bookkeeping. She also made sure the coffee pot was always on and a homemade sweet was available.
Her faith was very important to her and she was a lifelong member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and also a member of the church’s Ladies Aid. Fun loving, happy and having a zest for life best describes Darlene. She was always ready to go places whether it be to play cards, go to the casino or go dancing. She and LaVerne would often go dancing on weekends and sometimes three times a week. She loved to bake and to entertain, always enjoying having guests at the office or at her home. Darlene always had a smile and made everyone laugh, having a kind word for everyone. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and took great pleasure in caring for her great-grandchildren.
Darlene was preceded in death by her parents; husband, LaVerne; brother-in-law, Ray; and nephew, Lance. Survivors include: one son, Larry “Jobe” and his wife, Nancy; two grandchildren, Stacey and Joey; five great-grandchildren, Dakota, Delaney, Jacy, Jordan and Jaelie; one sister, LaVonne; other relatives and friends.
