Darlene M. Abbe

Darlene Mary Reimer Abbe was born October 29, 1927, on a farm near Schleswig, Iowa, the daughter of Hugo and Linda Zabel Reimer . She died Saturday, July 14, 2018, at Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison, Iowa, at the age of ninety.
She was baptized December 4, 1927, and confirmed March 29, 1942, at the Friedens Evangelical and Reformed Church in Schleswig. She received her early education at Country School Morgan #5. She graduated from Schleswig High School with the class of 1946 and then attended NTB (National Business Training) in Sioux City. She was subsequently employed at Farmers State Bank in Schleswig for four and one-half years.
July 1, 1951, Darlene was united in marriage to Orlan Abbe at the Friedens church in Schleswig and they made their home on the family farm in Ida County, Iowa, until 1990 when they retired and moved into Schleswig. Darlene was employed part-time as a grocery clerk at Schleswig Foods from 1987 until 1998.
Darlene was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church and their Ladies Aid in which she held various offices. In December of 1998, she started to document and count the weekly offerings and was also a collator on the monthly Immanuel Messenger staff. She enjoyed her card clubs, socializing with friends, working on her scrapbooks for her family and attending all the events in which her grandchildren participated.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Orlan Abbe in 1997, and her parents, Hugo and Linda Reimer. Survivors include: two sons, Larry Abbe and his wife, Anne, and Terry Abbe and his wife, Sally, all of Schleswig, Iowa; five grandchildren, Deanna and her husband, Adam Ullrich of Denison, Iowa, Crystal and her husband, Dr. Erik Bowman of Lincoln, Nebraska, Trisha Abbe of Omaha, Nebraska, Alexander Abbe and his wife, Laura of Marshalltown, Iowa and Ashton Seieroe and her husband, Brian of Ute, Iowa; six great-grandchildren, Alisyn, Luke and Seth Ullrich and Zahara, Halia and Ainsley Bowman; other relatives and friends.
