Darrell Phillip Peffer was born May 22, 1945, the son of Virgil and Lorraine Peffer. He died Sunday, April 17, 2016, at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa, at the age of seventy.
Butch, as he was known by many, was born in Brayton, Iowa. He received his education in the Denison Community Schools, graduating with the class of 1964. He worked at IBP for a short time before enlisting in the U.S. Air Force on August 25, 1965. He was stationed in Biloxi, Mississippi and Wichita, Kansas, receiving his honorable discharge in January, 1969. He returned to Denison and continued his employment with IBP. He retired from Tyson in April, 2012 with 48 years of service to the industry. He was united in marriage to Linda Goeser Krueger on February 14, 1976 at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison by Rev. Maschke. The couple wintered in Florida for the past four years. This year while they were there they celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary with their daughter Darel.
Darrell was an exceptional handyman who could do anything. He loved designing and planting flower beds and often said that by the time he finished there wouldn’t be any yard left to mow. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping and golfing. He told many stories about his Canada fishing trips that he took with his buddies in his younger days. After his retirement he enjoyed volunteering his time to take Veterans to the VA hospital. Darrell was also an avid Bill O’Reilly fan and kept current of the news on FOX News. He treasured his walks and enjoyed listening to country western music. Darrell and Linda enjoyed traveling across the United States. Some special trips were to Vermont, New York City, Niagara Falls, Washington D.C., Hilton Head Island in South Carolina, Las Vegas and Arizona. Darrell was a loving husband, father and grandfather, known as “PA” who created special memories and among some of them were by taking Sammi and Tyler on a yearly summer vacation to places like Wisconsin Dells, Branson, Arkansas,The Badlands and Mt. Rushmore plus many more. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, the Crawford County Garden Club and the American Legion Post 8.
Darrell was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Ron and one sister, Virginia and one niece and one nephew. Survivors include his wife, Linda; one daughter, Darel and her husband Tom; two grandchildren Samantha and her husband, Brent and their son Kryson; and Tyler and his fianc, Kaycee and their daughter, Mikenah; one sister, Barb and her husband, Buzz; and two sisters-in-law, Delores; Sue and her husband, Jeff; three brothers-in-law, David ; Bill and his wife Karla and Tom; one step brother-in-law, Dan and wife, Rosi; many nieces, nephews and friends.
As a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother, Darrell will be in our hearts forever.
