Darryl Petersen

Darryl Charles Petersen was born August 20, 1945, the son of Harry and Nellie Gremonprez Petersen. He died Friday, April 15, 2011, at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison at the age of 65.
Darryl was born in Denison, Iowa, and was baptized and confirmed at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Denison. He received his education in Schleswig schools, graduating with the class of 1963. Darryl served in the Army from 1965-1967 as a medic in Vietnam. On March 2, 1968, he was united in marriage to Joyce Petersen at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig, Iowa. The couple made their home on a farm near Schleswig, and were blessed with the birth of two sons. Darryl farmed with Joyce on the family farm until retirement in 1994. He worked for the City of Schleswig until the time of his death. In his spare time Darryl enjoyed playing with his grandchildren, spending time with family and friends, fishing, playing cards, and enjoying life. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce in 2006; brother, Tom; and niece, Sandy. He is survived by two sons: Jay and his wife, Kris of Dunlap; and Chad and his wife, Danae of Schleswig; seven grandchildren: Conlan, Kylie, Cooper, Cade, Martia, Tessa, and Tanna; his parents, Harry and Nellie; one brother, Jim and his wife Madalyn; one sister, Judy and her husband Gayle; sister-in-law, Kathy; mother-in-law, Lillie; sister-in-law Norma and husband Don; many nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.
