Daryl “Corky” Sorenson was born November 1, 1942, at Harlan, Iowa, the son of Howard and Olga Sorenson. He passed away Friday, January 25, 2019, at Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison, Iowa, at the age of seventy-six.
Corky was baptized in Christ as an infant but accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior in 1985 and was later rebaptized at Nelson’s Park. Following his education at the Harlan Community Schools, he was employed at Farmland. Subsequently, Corky was employed as a foreman for Chicago Northwestern Railroad until a broken leg he received in an accident forced him to leave that position. He then worked at Sisson Standard and retired from American Protein Company in 2009 at the age of sixty-seven. On April 3, 1964, Corky was united in marriage to Sandra Clark and they have been together for 55 years and were inseparable. The couple was blessed with the birth of two sons, Dean and Dan.
Possessing a strong faith in his Lord, Corky was a member of the Weslyan Church in Denison and served as a greeter there for many years. He was currently a member of the New Life Christian Fellowship in Denison where he helped as he could and enjoyed the Sunday lunches with his church family. Watching westerns, especially Bonanza, was a favorite pastime and he was particularly fond of his 1977 Monte Carlo. Corky was a collector of railroad memorabilia and loved working the railroad with his father-in-law. He also enjoyed going to horse sales with his father-in-law. His cat Savanna brought him many hours of pleasure and entertainment. He was quite a jokester and was funny without intending to be. Being very proud of his family, Corky was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and loved spending time with his grandchildren and hearing about their events. Socializing with friends, when he could brag about his children and grandchildren, brought him much pleasure.
Corky was preceded in death by his parents; his parents-in-law; two sisters, Darlene and Diane; sisters-in-law; brothers-in-law; nieces and nephews.
