Dean Randel Schrum was born April 25, 1958, the son of the late Harvey Lester Schrum and Aloha Holmes at Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa. He died peacefully on November 22, 2009, at rest in his home in Ames, Iowa, at the age of fifty-one.
Dean was baptized in Christ at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, Iowa, where he also confirmed his faith in Christ in 1973. He received his education in the Denison Community Schools and graduated from Denison High School. He also attended Western Iowa Tech.
On August 12, 1978, Dean was united in marriage to Rose Mary Jurgens at Zion Lutheran Church in Arcadia, Iowa. Their union was blessed by adopting a child, Timothy from Korea at the age of four months in 1984. The couple established their first home in Deloit, Iowa, until moving to Denison in 1988. Farmland Foods employed Dean from 1988 through 1997 as a line supervisor for meat cuts.
Dean was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Denison and assisted his wife Rose Mary with the Boyer Valley Diabetic Association for Crawford County. He enjoyed watching various sports teams such as the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Iowa Hawkeyes, and the best team ever... the Iowa State Cyclones. Dean enjoyed fishing, going on walks with Rose Mary and Timothy, taking random road trips with his son, and attending sporting events. Dean also enjoyed various Rock artists such as AC/DC, ZZ-Top, Bachman Turner Overdrive, and the Talking Heads.
His loving wife of nineteen years, Rose Mary, preceded him in death, as well as his grandparents, and his father, Harvey. Survivors include his mother, Aloha of Denison; one son, Timothy John of Ames; one brother, Dennis of Spencer, Iowa; one sister, Deanna of Minneapolis, Minnesota; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Oskar and Margie Jurgens of Denison; his sister-in-law, Carmen Hamilton and her husband, Bob of Denison; his brother-in-law, Michael of Sumner, Iowa; and many other relatives and friends.
