Debra Kay Mathies was born July 6, 1963 in Carroll, Iowa, the daughter of Dale and Ella Mae (Schwabe) Bueltel. She was baptized at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Lidderdale and she later confirmed her faith at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Manilla. She graduated from Manilla High School with the class of 1982.
On June 10, 1989, Deb was united in marriage to Russell Mathies at Sacred Heart Church in Manilla. To this union, they were blessed with three children: Jonathan, Nicholas, and Amanda. They made their home in Denison until 2000 when they moved to the Iowa Great Lakes area.
Over the years, Deb was a Certified Nursing Assistant in Harlan and a cook for Breadeaux Pizza and Past Times in Denison. After Deb and Russ moved to Spirit Lake, she cooked for Minervas Restaurant & Bar for over 17 years until her retirement in 2019.
She loved to cook and bake; Deb was most famous for her cheesecakes. Every Christmas, she wouldn't miss out on making her candy for her family and friends. She enjoyed cross stitching and fishing. In earlier years, Deb and Russ would go fishing three days a week and most of the time, Deb always out fished Russ. Above all, she had a strong faith in her Lord and she cherished her family more than anything.
Deb passed away on Friday, June 10, 2022 at St. Luke's Regional Medical Center in Sioux City, attaining the age of fifty-eight years, eleven months, and four days. She is survived by her husband, Russell Mathies of Spencer; children: Jon Mathies (Heather) of Thompson, Nic Mathies of Sioux Center, and Amanda Mathies (Carlin) of Fort Dodge; four grandchildren: Haven, Mya, Kiley, and Kayla; parents, Dale and Ella Mae Bueltel of Manilla; three brothers: Tom Bueltel (Ana) of Osage, Kevin Bueltel (Jeanne) of Breda, and Brian Bueltel (Neela) of Altoona; many other relatives and friends.
