Delbert H. Sachau

Delbert Harry Sachau was born on January 26, 1939 to Harry and Irene (Henningsen) Sachau. He passed away Sunday, June 15, 2014. At the time of his death he had been blessed with 75 years, 4 months and 20 days.
Delbert attended country school at Goodrich #5 where he graduated at 8th grade. He went on to attend Denison High School where he played football and was an FFA officer, serving as treasurer. He graduated in 1957. He was confirmed in the Lutheran faith by Reverend C.W. Schmidt. His confirmation passage was Romans 12:19 “For it is written, vengeance is mine, I will repay, saith the Lord” which Reverend Schmidt said he knew fit Delbert. Delbert, with a smile on his face, often quoted this verse throughout his life.
Delbert was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1962 and attended basic training in Fort Leonard Wood, MO. He then went to Fort Sam Houston where he trained to be a Medic. He was stationed in Munich, Germany where he stayed until his honorable discharge in 1966.
He was united in marriage to Dorene Kay Mohr on September 30, 1967. They made their home on the family farm in Goodrich Township. He engaged in farming, a dairy cow operation, and a beef operation with his father. After his retirement from farming, he spent his time gardening, fishing, watching the livestock, or you could find him in his tinker shed. Delbert took great pride in being involved and maintaining the family farms on a daily basis.
Delbert was a lifelong member of Zion Lutheran Church where he served as an usher for many years. He served on the Crawford County Fair Board and was a member of the Silver Spurs Riding Association. In his spare time, he loved listening to polka music and watching dances. He enjoyed going to Canada to fish with his children on their FFA trips. In the evening after the cows were milked, he would listen to WHO radio and hear his beloved Hawkeyes play.
Delbert was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Irene Sachau,and his parents in-law, Clarence and Margret Mohr. Those remaining to cherish his memory include: his wife, Dorene; children Chad; Joni (Jim); Annette (Bryan); Michelle; and John; grandchildren Kayla (Jesse), Jake, Joe, Jessica, Justin, Meghan, Connor, and Rachael; great-grandchildren Alisyn, Emma and Seth; brother Curtis and wife Joanne; nephews Craig; and Clint (Tina); niece Christi (Brian); many other relatives and friends.
